  • Why Have a Blog?

    Many people question what a blog can do for a business or an entity.  Are they effective?  Do they serve a real purpose?  I plan to answer those questions with this post.  Blogs should be seen as a miniature website.  The difference is the content and goals.  Websites are of course more in depth and promote the business services/products a company offers as well as answer questions.

    The call to action of a blog is completely different.  For example blogs typically do not answer employment opportunity questions or let people know the specifications of a product (unless the writer wants to highlight a product in single post) but websites do.

    Most blogs for a company or organization are used as a public relations tool as well as a tool to build the respective brands online.  Blogs when utilized properly can create a huge buzz for any company.

    The goal of the Temple American Marketing Association Think blog is to continually build the organization’s brand online and create awareness as well as interest.

    With a blog any business can do three things:

    1. Inform and draw interest- Keep fans and customers constantly aware of what is going on with the organization/company.
    2. Spread the word- The internet is an endless world in which information spreads at a rapid speed. How is your company or organization making an impact in the business world?  Let EVERYONE know.
    3. Develop the brand- Bring the personality of a brand to the web.

     

    All of those three things listed revolve around communication.  Communication in one word describes both the purpose of a blog and how they are effective.  Communication is vital to every single business.  The internet has changed how companies communicate and on the front line of web communications are blogs and of course social media.
    If you still don’t understand the purpose or use of a blog, take a look at Google’s blog which is ranked number 1 amongst corporate blogs.  If it is worth Google’s time, it should be worth everyone’s time.
