2009 SUMMER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The IRTS Summer Fellowship Program teaches up-and-coming communicators the realities of the media industry and business world through a nine-week , expense-paid fellowship , which includes practical experience and career-planning advice. Fellows gain full-time, “real world” experience at New York-based media companies. In addition, the Fellowship provides the opportunity to network with industry professionals, take related field trips, and attend panels, lectures and group discussions.

ELIGIBILITY:

COST: Travel, housing and living allowance included.

This diversity initiative is designed to give graduating seniors a jumpstart on the management track by providing customized sales training, in addition to the regular features of the Fellowship Program.

External Affairs Internship

Please Touch Museum, the Children’s Museum of Philadelphia, is seeking a college student majoring in Marketing/Public Relations or related field who is eager to gain hands-on communications experience. Part-time, non-paid, however, college credit can be granted.

Intern must exhibit strong organizational, communications, and project management skills and will be responsible for providing quality and efficient customer service. Position reports to VP of External Affairs and works closely with Marketing/PR team. Schedule is flexible. Some weekend and/or evening work may be necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management and implementation of programs for the Marketing Department.
  • Assist in the development of integrated ticket sales programs – corporate and hospitality
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies and tactics to produce sales from schools, youth groups, affinity, corporate, and tour and travel group segments
  • Oversee the coordination & execution of gorilla marketing efforts via Please Touch Museum’s Play Patrol.  Work with education and marketing departments to incorporate Play Patrol activities that focus on PTM’s learning through play philosophy
  • Manage various databases (Education, Target X, Sesame Preferred Partners Program, Special Delivery)
  • Provide additional administrative support

Sales Interns develop and lead customers’ joint business plans with our Retail, Pharmaceutical, Professional Products, Dental, or Chemicals customers. Sales Interns achieve superior brand sales by leveraging their strategic skills and utilizing proprietary research and industry understanding.

Qualified candidates need to be willing to relocate since positions vary by location depending on assignment. They must have a valid driver’s license and must currently be either a sophomore or junior at their college or university.

INTERNSHIP: Mitchell & Ness

Overview of Internship:

Marketing interns, under the guidance of the department’s leader, will observe the operations and learn the functions of the Marketing Team, while assisting with special projects, game/event operations, publications and promotions with the ultimate goal of increasing foot traffic and sales to the Mitchell and Ness retail store located at 1318 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, PA 19107.

Duties include but are not limited to…
Assist in management of local promotions

  • Participate in weekly meetings, providing feedback about promotions as well as contributing original, creative marketing idea
  • Complete weekly tasks by managing time and efforts in market
  • Assist Coordinator with other onsite responsibilities

Promotional Support

  • Help identify key local and regional events (concerts, fairs, festivals, sporting events, etc)
  • Should be aware of all ongoing projects and provide support, guidance, and resources as necessary
  • Document all marketing projects and provide complete recap immediately following all local events
  • Must be prepared to educate the public about Mitchell and Ness and represent the company in a professional manner

Literature Placement

  • Help identify local and regional outlets (malls, arenas, bars, music stores, etc) for literature distribution
  • Assist in securing local contacts (hotels, university officials, businesses, youth league directors, etc) that will help distribute Mitchell and Ness materials within their specific group
  • Track all distribution in market

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College student with study emphasis in Marketing, Sports Administration or a related field
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy with experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) is required
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented
  • Must take responsibility seriously and be independently motivated.
  • Must be flexible, able to accept direction and constructive criticism, as necessary, and have the ability to work efficiently on multiple projects

INTERNSHIP: Independent Dream Machine

Overview:
Independent Dream Machine, a motion-picture production and distribution company is seeking Marketing, Public Relations/Journalism, Graphic Design and Film & Video interns for the fall semester 2008. The internship is for school credit and there is an opportunity for compensation based upon the success of the intern’s abilities to achieve their objectives. The internship will take place at the student’s school and will work in collaboration with other interns. In conjunction with Independent Dream Machine, interns will learn how to market and distribute a feature-film using resources at their campus and surrounding area. Independent Dream Machine’s credits include Fading, AKA It’s A Wiley World, 2005 Official Sundance Selection Loggerheads, Getting Off, Southern Belles, Just Like the Son, In Search Of (releasing Fall 2008) and For the Love of Jade (fall 2008 production). The potential interns should be self motivated creative thinkers who would love to be a part of a movie’s success as well as a possible career in the motion picture company.

Internship Objectives:
To assist company in attaining a successful campus screening and local week long run at a local theatre of its latest feature In Search Of

In order to achieve objectives intern must run a successful marketing/advertising campaign which entails the following:
Get University/College and local press to cover the film prior to its screening and continue efforts through its run.
Design fliers using In Search Of content.
Post your designed fliers when it is timely to promote screening(s).
Rally local organizations that center around social issues pertaining to the movie…informing them about the movie and why they’d be interested in sponsoring or advertising the screening(s).

Curriculum:
Using the latest technologies Independent Dream Machine and students will be implementing a grass roots campaign in order to create buzz about In Search Of. Each Friday, intern is required to write a 2 page report on what steps were taken in order to meet the internship’s objectives the previous week as well as specific goals that should be met before the following Friday. Once the internship team is assembled, executives of the company will set up a meeting with the interns.

Compensation:
Students along with Independent Dream Machine will arrange for the internship to be for College/University
credit. Upon the success of the In Search Of screenings the interns will receive a 25% net profit from the screenings to be divided amongst the interns equally.
